Real Wedding| Jemma & Michael| Beautifully Rustic Wedding in Owen House Wedding Barn

After meeting through a mutual friend, Michael took his sweet time before asking Jemma out on a date. Five years on and the pair have proved that good things come to those who wait with their beautiful, rustic themed wedding at Owen House Wedding Barn.

The proposal was a complete celebration of their relationship where Michael, after decorating their home with fairy lights and candles, surprised Jemma even further by giving her a new outfit to go with her new ring and taking her to the location of their first date where their closest friends & family were waiting to help them celebrate.

In today’s feature, the happy newlyweds share their gorgeous day:

The Venue

Jemma started looking for a barn venue from the off and came across Owen House Wedding Barn early on. About the venue she said: “It had everything we needed in one place: ceremony room, reception space & accommodation. Even when I saw it as an empty room, I loved it and knew it was exactly what we wanted. We knew we wanted a rustic vibe and nothing too prim & proper.”

To help with ideas of how to dress the venue according to their theme and colour scheme, which was centered around Michaels favourite colour – orange, Jemma scoured Pinterest for inspiration. With help from their friends, they dressed the venue the day before the big day with items sourced from Hobbycraft, Etsy, the Range & Homesense. Their favourite items were the mini drinks bottles they gave to each guest as favours, all of which were had personalised tags attached to them.

“We wanted the day and the venue to be full of personal touches and our bridal party certainly helped with that by helping and being involved every step of the way. Everything was done with love.”

The Dress

Jemma’s stunning dress was the Galatea gown from the Willowby by Watters range. “As soon as I put it on, I knew it was the one but it was only my first appointment and I wanted to keep a level head. Nothing else I tried on had a patch on my dress. I went back a couple of months later and when I put it on, I didn’t want to take it off.”

The boutique Jemma purchased her gown from was Along Came Eve in Chester. Of the boutique Jemma says: “I will recommend Along Came Eve to every bride. The team in there are a dream and have a wealth of knowledge and talent. They made the whole experience a delight and settled any nerves I had at the beginning.”

The First Dance

The choice for Jemma and Michaels first dance song is described as “a bit of a strange one” by the couple. They chose James Blake’s cover of Vincent by Don McClean. “We tried our hardest to pick a more conventional tune but there’s no other song we love more and will sing loudly together when it’s on.” We think it sounds like the perfect choice!

Advice from the couple

Jemma says “There’s no wedding without stress but it really does all fall away on the day. Being surrounded by the people you love is the only thing that matters. Also, don’t have chicken wings as a canapĂ©… Its not very practical when wearing a white dress.”

Michael adds “Don’t worry! The ceremony, the speech… none of it is as scary as you think it’ll be. Just try to relax and enjoy it.”

Their Favourite Image

Jemma took the reigns on this one: “Although Mike disagrees, I love the shots of him with a tear in his eye as my Dad & I walk into the ceremony – seeing it takes me right back to how I felt walking down the aisle towards him.”

The image choice may also be explained by the ceremony being the couples favourite part of the day. Jemma says “I thought it would be the most nerve wracking part but we loved it. Seeing how emotional Mike was and just having our friends and family there was really special.” Mike adds: “I thoroughly enjoyed getting to the post-speech part. I loved the moments we shared doing the shots of just the two of us. It was really nice to have some time together.”
